INTRODUCTION

Tung-mui is ADAM’s Resident Artist. Motor impaired from birth, Tung-mui began painting in 1992 and presented her first solo exhibition “Life‧Rainbow” in 1997. In 1999 and 2005, she hosted another two solo exhibitions, “Breaking Out” and “Art and Life”. Together with her sister Liu Cheng-mui, they jointly exhibited their works at the event “Trajectories” in both Hong Kong and Macau.

She also actively takes part in various arts exhibitions and competitions at home and abroad, including:

  • The Large-scale Painting and Calligraphy Exhibition for the Celebration of the 8th Anniversary of the Establishment of HKSAR
  • International Festival of Inclusive Arts.
  • Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation Art Corner
  • MTR Art in Station Architecture – her artwork “Persimmon” is on long-term display on the platform of Jordan MTR station
  • First-runner-up - “The 5th International Abilympics” Poster Design Competition, Prague
  • Juried artist - “2004 VSA Arts Festival - Dare to Imagine”, Washington D.C

Tung-mui's works also include two painting albums, which were published in 1998 and 2008. She also published the book “Holding Tight; Letting Go” in collaboration with renowned artist Ah Chung.

She is also the recipient of numerous awards in recognition of her achievements in art, including:

  • Ten Outstanding Warriors of Regeneration 2000
  • Outstanding Person with Disability Award 2002
  • Ten Outstanding Young Persons Award 2005
  • Most Successful Women Award 2007 by Jessica
  • Hong Kong Spirit Ambassador 2012

For her exemplary efforts in pursuing a meaningful life through painting despite her disability and for her valuable contribution to charity activities, Tung-mui was awarded a Medal of Honour (M.H.) by the Hong Kong government. She is also one of the recipients of the. On top of those honours, Tung-mui had the priviledge of being one of the Beijing 2008 Paralympics torch-bearers. In 2010 she received a nomination for ATV’s “Hong Kong Top Ten Loving Hearts Selection Campaign”.

Tung-mui regularly assists other disabled people in developing their creative and artistic potentials through the “Jockey Club Arts for the Disabled Scheme”. For her efforts she was appointed in 2004 as the “Star of Arts” by the Hong Kong Health, Welfare and Food Bureau. She was also interested in dancing, having performed in the event “Painting in Dance – the Art of Dance by the Happy Rainbow Fishes 2011” at the Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts.
