Chan Man Shan survived from brain cancer at a young age, which impaired his motor functions and left him confined in his wheelchair. His disability, however, did not stop him from pursuing his dreams of becoming an artist. Man Shan began his painting training at the SAHK’s Bradbury Tak Tin Workshop in 2004, where he is still working today as a designer and illustrator of calendars and tote bags sold at trade fairs.
Man Shan regularly participates in art events. He collaborated with a group of volunteer architects to create a large－scale watercolour painting, which was featured on curtains embellishing the walls inside the Aberdeen Tennis and Squash Centre café. He hopes to increase public awareness of disabled artists through his artwork, and to empower other disabled people to lead a fruitful life.
